Church of St. John in the Wilderness

We will play classical, jazz and global music that celebrates the diversity of musical cultures and and the exciting ways in which they intersect.

Alan Hovhaness, Mystic Flute, is a 20th Century American composer of Armenian origin. Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla, Oblivion, has developed tango into his game-changing contribution to the 20th C. classical canon. Alaap and Gat in Raag Yaman, by John Myers, for sitar and traditional Western instruments, uses the syntax of both Eastern and Western music. Veloce, by French jazz composer Claude Bolling is written for classical flute and jazz piano trio. Quartet in C Major by J.C. Bach has an element of 'crossover' music; as the youngest son of J.S. Bach, Johann Christian had one foot in the past and another foot in the new generation of musicians that acquainted him with Mozart. The Cello Suite No. 3 by J.S. Bach is not a blend of styles but rather the singular, purest and ultimate expression of the Baroque period. Our program includes jazz with Allan Dean, trumpet, and the choro Tico-Tico no fuba for the finale.
